Attention Jasper County Taxpayers affected by the March 10 severe weather:
Any taxpayer who has experienced significant damage or complete loss to the structures located on their property is eligible for property tax relief for your 2026 assessment to be paid in 2027. To receive this reduction, you must file a Form 137R for a reassessment of the property that has been partially or totally destroyed by disaster. This form can be found on the Department of Local Government Finance website located here: https://forms.in.gov/Download.aspx?id=4773 . You may also call the Assessor’s office at 219-866-4914 to request the form to be mailed or emailed to you. We will also put a link on the home page of the Jasper County website: https://www.jaspercountyin.gov/ . We ask that you complete the form and return to the Assessor’s office at your earliest convenience.
To assist us in making this process a bit easier, please be sure to have photos of the structures that will require the reassessment. We will also be having aerial photography completed that captures the tornado path to help us verify and determine those who need relief. The Assessor’s office will be reviewing this imagery to further assist affected taxpayers by mailing out the disaster form for your convenience. We hope to do this over the next couple weeks, but encourage anyone who has suffered a loss to reach out to assist us in the process. We don’t want to miss anyone. Please note that minimal damage such as detached gutters or missing shingles will not likely result in a reduced value, but if you have actual structural damage to your home or outbuildings, we encourage you to file this form as soon as possible so we can do our verifications and make any necessary adjustments.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected and we urge you to please reach out should you have any questions or concerns.
